Become a Bergmann Resale Shop Volunteer

You have an opportunity to assist the Bergmann Center with one of their primary funding projects:  The Resale Shop.  Newly relocated to Martin Road and reopening on December 8, 2025, our resale shop needs the help of willing hands in receiving of donations, assistance with customers and sorting/processing donated stock items for display. 

 

Volunteering in the Bergmann Bargain Resale Shop offers numerous benefits, including developing valuable retail skills, contributing to a community service, and potentially gaining career advancement opportunities. It also provides a sense of purpose, improved well-being, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Resale Shop Volunteer Job Description

Position Overview: This volunteer position provides bargain shoppers with a friendly and inviting shopping experience by offering excellent customer service and ensuring an organized sales floor.

​​​Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to all shoppers.

    • Assist with receiving, sorting and organizing new donations

    • Prepare merchandise for placement on the sales floor

    • Keep the sales floor clean and organized for shoppers

    • Assist with carrying in donations or bringing purchases to shoppers’ cars

    • Serve as cashier as needed

    • Work as part of a team to provide a positive shopping experience for all visitors

    • Record volunteer hours

Impact of Role:
Providing a positive shopping experience ensures that people of all backgrounds and incomes feel welcome and respected.  A large portion of our program services and operating revenue is funded by the resale shop. We depend on volunteers to assit with cutting overhead costs, so that dollars earned or donated can go directly to program services!

 

Schedule and Commitment:

Volunteers are asked to commit to a regular schedule of at least two volunteer shifts per month. Shifts can vary in length from 2-8 hours, depending on volunteer’s availability.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.

  • Must be able to stand, bend, lift and reach for two hours at a time and able to lift 25 pounds

  • An orientation and all job-specific training will be provided!

NOTE:  Complying with Medicaid program requirements, a volunteer may be subject to a background check, may be required to be certified in first aid/CPR training or may have other specific training requirements.  All volunteers must comply with HIPAA and Recipient Rights requirements. Training for these requirements is ALWAYS paid for by the Bergmann Center. Please ask what requirements are needed for your specific volunteer efforts!
